AEF2023: Herbie Hancock Live at the Acropolis
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Click here for our festival picks or head over to the official website for the full programme.
There are no intros, puns, or hooks clever enough to pitch a Herbie Hancock concert. One of the last remaining true titans of music visits Athens as a guest of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The iconic jazz pianist debuted in the jazz music scene in 1960 alongside blues trumpeter Donald Byrd, before being signed by legendary Blue Note Records two years later. He carries under his belt longtime collaborations with Miles Davis and Chick Corea, 14 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award for Original Score for Round Midnight, and produced one of the very first global hip hop hits in Rockit. And that’s only touching the surface with regards to his contribution to music during the last six decades. Come get your groove on beneath the Acropolis.
