AEF2023: The Waterboys Live at the Acropolis
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Click here for our festival picks or head over to the official website for the full programme.
Mike Scott, the heart and soul of The Waterboys, is not keen on performing the band's greatest hits at their concerts. “We’ve been playing these (ed their hits like This is the Sea, The Pan Within, The Whole of the Moon) for decades, it’s time to give them a break,” he recently said in an interview for a Greek portal. The Greek-loving Scottish band is coming to Athens as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, and to be honest, we kind of hope Scott changes his mind and we get to hear Pan’s tale at the open-air Roman theatre. Either way, it’s going to be a great trip down folk memory lane.
