Books As Art
If you think that books are just for reading, “art books” are here to change your mind. Αrt books, or artist's books, are artworks in their own right; rather than reading them, we should experience them. The Gramma Epsilon Gallery in Athens is currently hosting the group exhibition Books as Art, curated by Paolo Cortese and supported by the Italian Institute of Culture in Athens. More than thirty international artists from the area of conceptual, verbal, visual and fibre art create three-dimensional works that aim to challenge our perception about the definition of “book”. By bringing together works that date back to the 1960s and juxtaposing them with pieces by contemporary artists, the exhibition explores the diverse possibilities that books offer as a means of artistic expression. Definitely a page-turner.
