Ennio Morricone Tribute
The Venice International Film Festival kicked off this year with a tribute to Ennio Morricone. So will every other film festival. Our cinematic memories are soundtracked by the everlasting compositions of the Maestro, who died on July 6 at the age of 91. Arguably one of the greatest film composers of all times, Morricone soundtracked more than 500 films leaving behind a blueprint on how to compose music for cinema—Sergio Leone, director of the spaghetti-western Dollars trilogy and Once Upon a Time in the West, actually waited for Morricone to write music for some scenes, then shoot them. The great Italian narrator is being celebrated at the SNFCC with the screening of five films at the Great Lawn and a concert by the Athens State Orchestra under the direction of acclaimed conductor Adrian Prabava. Entrance to the screenings is free and viewers are advised to bring mosquito-repellent, as well as a throw or blanket to spread on the ground. The concert will take place at the Stavros Niarchos Hall in partnership with the European Film Philharmonic Institute and will be broadcasted live at the Great Lawn, as well as at SNFCC's website and SNFCC's Facebook page.
Due to public health measures, there may be changes regarding either the staging of the event, or the maximum number of participants.
