India Mahdavi: Achromia
Think twice before you praise Ancient Greek sculptures for their pure minimalism. All those pearly white marbles we admire on the Parthenon? They came in dazzling colours that we would probably deem tacky today. Architect and designer India Mahdavi comes to highlight this historical misunderstanding in her exhibition Achromia at Carwan Gallery. Champion of contemporary design from Western Asia and the Mediterranean, Carwan Gallery challenged the designer, famous for her joyful pinks and lush greens, to remove all colour from her signature pieces and go for an all white Pentelic marble palette. How do we feel when looking upon her colour-stripped creations? Does our admiration of Western Classicism remain the same? These are the questions Mahdavi asks. Come get the questions at Piraeus’ red-hot gallery district.
