Lola Flash: Salt
The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens is celebrating women's art this season with a series of group and solo exhibitions honouring pioneering female artists.
More exciting news from EMST, as it welcomes rockstar photographer Lola Flash for her first solo exhibition in Greece. For over forty years, Flash has been shattering stereotypes and challenging norms around gender, sexuality, race and age. An active member of ACT UP during the AIDS epidemic in New York City, Flash was most notably featured in the 1989 "Kissing Doesn't Kill" poster. Their art and activism are deeply intertwined, fueling a lifelong commitment to the visibility and preservation of the legacies of communities of people of colour and the LGBTQIA+ worldwide. Their series SALT, which has been in progress since 2011, is a love letter to women over the age of 70 who have been quietly making an impact on the world. From iconic photographers to Sumi-e masters, Flash captures their essence in every shot, serving as a constant reminder to embrace diversity and representation.
