Parallel Viewing
Did you know that the Bank of Greece has a large and impressive collection of artworks by Greek artists from different periods and styles? Curator Haris Kanellopoulou has come up with a new way of presenting these works to a wider audience with the exhibition Parallel Viewing, currently on show at the Theocharakis Foundation.
Parallel Viewing features 70 paintings, from 19th century works to contemporary pieces, grouped into three themes: "Places and Spaces", "Myths and People" and "Dynamics of Absence". What makes this exhibition special is that each of these themes occupies its own floor, where visitors will find paintings of different styles in conversation with each other. Consider, for example, 19th-century watercolours of ancient Greek landmarks next to urban paintings from the 2010s. Their juxtaposition triggers conversations and questions, an approach that aims to challenge us and make us actively think about art.
