Visitations: Encountering Museums in Attica
Yiannis Hadjiaslanis latest exhibition, "Visitations: Encountering Museums in Attica", breaks new ground by engaging in abstract conceptualization as he aspires to redefine museum discourses and re-approach curating narratives in their essence. Too complicated? Let us break it down for you.
The artist visited more than 50 museums in the Attica region in a period of five years. As most of us do (when allowed to), he took shots of various exhibits using a small film camera. As most of us don’t do, he actually used these snaps instead of having them sit in our mobile memory drives or have their 24hrs of fame on Instagram. The result is a new body of work that acts on several different levels; a photo mosaic, an archive, a reconstructive approach of the originals. These past exhibits are now presented under a new context over at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre. What that context is and how their new story unfolds is now entirely upon the visitor.
The interdisciplinary research “Curiositas-Visitations (2021)” will be presented for the first time as part of the exhibition. "Visitations: Encountering Museums in Attica" is a co-production of the Culture, Sports & Youth Organisation of the City of Athens and the Philosophy Photography Lab, supported by the Kalfayan Galleries.
