Reality Check Chapter II: Inner Sanctum
Last year’s first edition of Reality Check, was a sleeper hit in the Athenian art world. Set in one of the largest abandoned buildings in the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica (Dafni), one can only begin to understand why. The uncomfortable to deal with yet all the same captivating concept returns this October and we feel that once again it’s going to be amongst the highlights of the season. Ranging from videos, sculptures and photographs to installations and performances, the works of 36 artists will be on display at the muted building's rooms and corridors. Although on first thought, mental health seems to be the overall theme, this is only half true. In fact, less than half. Time and space are of the essence—aren’t they always?—and in this atopic dialogue visitors are invited to examine their own chronological and spatial constraints within an area built for confinement.
While the issue of mental health may not be the focal point of this exhibition, it is a thematic that is increasingly being addressed and brought to public awareness this year. Don’t forget to also check the Elpis exhibition; while we are already looking forward to this year’s SNF Nostos Festival which is dedicated to the same thematic.
