Nikolai Lugansky in Rachmaninoff’s Third
If you want to flex your skills as a pianist, then taking on a piece by Rachmaninoff is the way to go. Sergei Rachmaninoff’s compositions for the piano are notoriously complex and performing them is considered peak achievement for virtuoso pianists. The Athens Concert Hall celebrates 150 years since the birth of the legendary Russian composer with a performance of his Third Concerto, perhaps his most challenging composition. Up to the task is pianist Nikolai Lugansky, one of the greatest interpreters of Rachmaninoff’s work. The evening starts with Paul Hindemith’s symphony “Mathis de Maler”, and Filippos Tsalahouris’ “Julian suite for orchestra” performed in Greece for the first time by the Athens State Orchestra.
