6th Athens International Children's Film Festival
Do you remember what it was like to be a child? The 6th Athens International Children's Film Festival is here to remind you of the joys and frustrations of being a child and a teenager. This year's programme includes 91 different films from 32 countries, all about self-expression, growing up differently and the joy of being yourself.
Young children can enjoy colourful animation with Shorts for Tots, a selection of short animations without words. For Kids' Picks, children have taken on the role of film curators and selected the shorts shown in this slot (there's also a Teen's Picks section, so your teenager won't get grumpy). There are also two Spotlights sections this year, "Our Neighbourhood" and “Our Environment”. The first section introduces us to Along the Way, a Greek-Dutch co-production for older teens about the struggles of Afghan teenage refugees. For older children there is also the Croatian comedy The Diary of Paulina P., described as one of the funniest films in this year's festival. The second section includes several beautifully animated films such as Katak the Great Beluga and the playful Rainboy for the youngest of the bunch. You can read the full schedule here and select films according to age group (2-7, 8-13 and 13-18 years).
Screenings take place all over Athens, so there's probably a film near you: check out the Athens Concert Hall and Danaos near the centre, Cinemax 1 & 2 Kifissia in the northern suburbs, and Cineak in Piraeus. Ready to feel young again?
