The Birds by Aristophanes
2,500 years ago, two people fed up with the feuds of men and tired of society left the world and headed for the sky. There, they met with the birds and founded a new city where they could live in peace. They built a wall around the city to protect it from the Gods, and also to stop the sacrificial smokes the Gods fed upon from reaching them. In case you've never read or seen Aristophanes' The Birds we won't spoil the ending for you. What we will do however, is wholeheartedly recommend you book for Nikos Karathanos' acclaimed theatrical production that lands on Onassis Stegi's main stage for two days, before it flies off to Chile's Santiago a Mil festival. Brazilian dance group Passinho Carioca, from the favelas of Rio, meet with a dozen other actors, musicians, and dancers from Greece in this "harsh, hypnotic, primal and ethereal" interpretation of Aristophanes' wildest surviving play. The performances will have English sub-titles.
