Mikhail Karikis: Because We Are Together
Mikhail Karikis, of Greek/British descent and based in London and Lisbon, is an artist who frequently employs moving images, sound and other media types in his work. Karikis makes his debut in Athens with his latest exhibition Because We Are Together at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. Drawing inspiration from global industrial and political history, literature, and avant-garde music, he challenges visitors to reflect on social, political and environmental issues with his six key audio-visual installations at EMST.
Karikis’ work can also be seen at the very intriguing and currently running exhibition This current between us that takes place at the Steam and Electricity Power Station over at Palio Faliro.
This season is turning out to be quite a fruitful one for EMST. Along with Karikis’ show, visitors can check out the museum’s major group exhibition Modern Love (or Love in the Age of Cold Intimacies).
