12th Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival
Honest question: does avant-garde art ever become classic? Or are these two separate realms that never meet? Ponder over that one between the screenings of the Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival this summer. The popular movie feast returns for its 12th edition, a hybrid one at that, at the two indoor movie theatres of the Greek Film Archive, the Lais open-air cinema and online. Leading Hollywood craftsman George Stevens, American avant-garde cinema godfather Jonas Mekas and Greek master stylist Theo Angelopoulos are honoured this year, along with Babette Mangolte, an iconic figure of the international experimental film industry.
