Romeo and Juliet at Megaron
It's about time the Balkans had their own version of Romeo and Juliet. Two families, the Greek Capoulets and the Turkish Montegi, coexist in a delicate balance that is often upset by turmoil. Shakespeare's classic tale of tragic love is set against a backdrop of rising crime and deep-rooted religious traditions, and soundtracked by the thunderous brass sounds of the region. English is the common language that helps these two cultures communicate. But amid the chaos, a beautiful love story begins to blossom between a Turkish Romeo and a Greek Juliet. Unfortunately, echoing the play's classic themes of love and loss, their romance comes to a tragic end, marked by a fatal misunderstanding. Directed by the acclaimed Lefteris Yovanidis, this ambitious production brings together Greek and Turkish actors, building a lasting "bridge" between the two nations.
