This year’s This is Athens City Festival brings movement to the streets — from inclusive dance performances to unexpected pop-up moments. Whether it’s a choreographed reflection on accessibility or a surprise encounter in a city square, the performing arts programme invites us to see Athens as a living stage.
02/05: InDance Performance by EXIS Inclusive Dance Group, Kotzia Square:
Dancers from across Europe explore “Accessibility in the City” in this powerful outdoor performance, choreographed by EXIS — a Greek group championing inclusive dance. The work highlights the need for accessible urban spaces while celebrating the talents of disabled and non-disabled performers alike.
28/05: The National School of Dance Steps Outside, Omonia Square:
Expect dance in the most unexpected places as students from Greece’s prestigious National School of Dance bring their art out of the studio and into the city. Under the direction of choreographer Dafnis Kokkinos, this one-day performance lights up Omonia Square with bold movement and youthful energy.
* Most events are free entrance and require no tickets, to the exception of some that have a priced ticket, or require pre-registration, or are invitation-only. All related information to each of the festival's events can be found on the festival's website, under the page for each event.
