Costas Tsoclis: Painting Limitations and Transgressions

It's not only Costas Tsoclis' works that have been the subject of discussion and adoration the past 65 years, but his views on art and life itself: "Art is not meant to render the human being unhappier, but to redeem him"; "Happiness are moments in time when you felt that you were rewarded with the currency of your own choice". In fact, the Greek creator's views were often more dense than his paintings. Tsoclis is considered to be one of the most important Greek visual artists of the 20th century. His paintings are known for transforming the real into the imaginary and the invisible into the visible, challenging dimensional restrictions. His "living painting" technique birthed a whole movement in 1985, expanding the limitations of painting beyond the borders of the canvas.

In view of the artist’s 90th birthday, the B. & M. Theocharakis Foundation inaugurates its new visual arts period with the retrospective exhibition of the renowned artist. The exhibition will last for two months, but we suggest you don't sleep on it.
