Charles Sandison: The Garden of Light
"For some strange reason, from a very early age I was able to understand computer language. Computer code is like poetry to me." Charles Sandison's exhibition The Garden of Light is definitely not for those who struggle with poetry or technology. The Scottish visual artist tackles above all, language. Its complications, origins and structure fascinate him. Sandison stages computer-generated software installations that project text onto building facades or interiors. Symbols, words, and figures weave into each other creating bursts of imagery before exploding again into blasts of patterns. His Garden, hosted by Bernier-Eliades gallery, is a biological collage created by AI that intertwines the concepts of memory, identity, morality and the environment through five installations; Et in Arcadia ego (2020), Nude I-II (2020), Good and Evil and Yes and No (2018), The Maker (2020) and Metsänpeitto (2020). All in all, this is an imaginary, digital ecosystem that comments on our unimaginable reality.
