AEF2023: Sigur Rós Live at the Acropolis
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. We were absolutely thrilled to hear the news of Sigur Rós being included in the AEF programme this year. At the same time, we were kind of sceptical about whether to attend or not. Don’t get us wrong, we love everything the Iceland post-rockers do. However, their last performance in Athens took place on a rare, thunderstorm summer day when tens of thousands of Athenians defied the weather and rocked to the band’s set. A truly epic experience. Can they top that with a one-of-a-kind performance at the foot of the Sacred Rock? We guess we just sold it to ourselves.
