AEF2023: Subset Festival ⊆
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Click here for our festival picks or head over to the official website for the full programme.
Betting heavy, as per usual, on the avant-garde, the Athens Epidaurus Festival teams up with the Athens Conservatory for a brand new music festival at the latter’s state-of-the-art new stages. Though familiar, the formula remains intriguing and brings together a number of established and up-and-coming local and international artists who dabble in contemporary musical creation and, well, see what happens. The five-day festival incorporates a wide range of artistic works (from your everyday DJ sets and live concerts, to audiovisual installations) and includes workshops and discussions, where both visitors and directors as well as curators of similar events from across the globe will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the diverse contemporary Greek music scene.
