AEF2023: World Music Day
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Click here for our festival picks or head over to the official website for the full programme.
Hope you get to read this on time, since this event is definitely going to be a sell-out. The celebration of World Music Day, one of the very few, if not the only, Herodion free-entrance events of the season, takes place on the longest day of summer. The Athens Epidaurus Festival joins forces with the National Symphony Orchestra to present a three-part concert beneath the Acropolis.; a performance of Camille Saint-Saëns’ delightful Le Carnaval des animaux, a French take on Dionysis Savvopoulos’ momentous Zeibekiko by contemporary master Thierry Pécou, and a two-suites orchestral performance from Bizet’s Carmen.
