In the countdown to Lent, all of Athens gets dressed up to celebrate apokries—Greece’s version of carnival. Join the three-week festival with costume parties, meat-free feasts and free events for the whole family.

Carnival usually falls somewhere in late February or early March. Because the Orthodox Church still adheres to the Julian calendar, Greek dates for Carnival, Lent and Easter vary from year to year.
