Democracy at the National Gallery

If you are interested in the convergence of artistic and political movements, this major exhibition titled Democracy will run at the National Gallery from July 11, 2024, to February 2, 2025, commemorating fifty years since the restoration of democracy in Greece in 1974, after a seven-year military dictatorship. It offers a unique opportunity to experience a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, posters, video projections, and performances. Featuring 140 works by 55 artists and with contributions from the biggest museums and private collections from Greece and Portugal, the show charts the transformative period in Southern European history as Greece, Spain, and Portugal transitioned from authoritarian rule to democratic governance.

This new exhibition comes shortly after Urbanography, the National Gallery’s previous great retrospective (and the first one that was curated by its new Director, Syrago Tsiara) which was met with high praise. So consider us very excited to visit this one.
