The Ancient Civilizations of Basilicata. Treasures Emerging to Light
Visiting the Acropolis Museum is always a memorable experience, and now there’s an added delight. This temporary exhibition brings together 300 hidden treasures from Italian collections, many never before displayed, all centred around the rich culture of Basilicata in southern Italy.
The exhibition showcases Basilicata’s Bronze Age civilisation, spanning the 11th to the 6th century BCE. It reveals the fascinating encounters between Greek settlers from the Peloponnese and the local communities they met during the Greek colonisation of Italy and Sicily, in the region known as Magna Graecia. This is a rare chance to get a glimpse of a vibrant era of cultural exchange and mutual influence that helped shape the Mediterranean.
